HTML Messages Not Displaying in Desktop Notification

I am having a problem whereby emails that are in HTML, but also have a plain text section saying something along the lines of "Please view this email with a client that supports HTML" are only displaying the plain text section on the desktop notification. However if I click on the notification, the larger popup window shows the HTML version correctly, as does Gmail itself. Snippet below of the Desktop Notification.

What is strange is that if I remove and re-install the Chrome Addon, it works correctly for a while, showing the HTML message, but then reverts to just showing plain text after maybe a few messages or a relatively short period of time.

The header section of the plain text section is:

Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii
Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit

The header for the HTML section is:

Content-Type: text/html; charset=UTF-8
Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable

Is there a setting I have missed or anything I can do to make the desktop notification show the HTML?
