Error 403: User does not have appropriate permissions

Tried to remove a file from my Google Drive which I was not the creator, but it was shared as "Anyone with the link can view." When clicking the link I got the error "Error 403: User does not have appropriate permissions." Worked as expected when I opened up a chrome tab to drive.google.com. File was removed from my view with the notification that other collaborators could still see the file.

  • Good bug, out of curiosity was the word "Remove" used when you used the Google Drive website or was it something like "Remove from My Drive". My guess is that Google Drive had logic to detect that it was not your file so instead of physically deleting the file it would just "remove it from your drive" but keep it alive for everyone else.
  • Right click menu said 'Remove' confirmation pop-up message said 'One file removed. One file is still accessible by collaborators.'
