Webmail ad blocker 4.0 not working on Yahoo mail

I have just received the new update for Webmail ad blocker and it now does not work properly any more.

I
have tried uninstalling and reinstalling. If you disable then re-enable
it works, but as soon as you close the browser, then re-open it it
stops working again. When it dose work and I go to Yahoo mail you can
see the screen expanding it takes about 1 or 2 seconds for the ad-on to
kick in, before it was instant.

Before the update the add-on worked perfectly.

I'm using Windows 7 64, and Firefox 26.0, Webmail ad blocker 4.0

Comments

  • how long have you been using Firefox version 26?
because it seems for me atleast my old code was not working for version 26 anymore.
So i chnaged the extension code and it works for me, but i might have to check these restarts and disable/enable conditions and currently opened tabs issues etc.
let me know if you dig up any more details as to the cause of the issues
  • could you also tell me the exact firefox version you have  this "funnelcake  mozilla28" at the end of my firefox?
and do you have other "no restart" extensions installed that work properly
  • I'm using Firefox 26.0 if you require additional information, this was next the the user agent label in troubleshooting Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:26.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/26.0.

    I've
been using FF 26.0 since 10th Dec 2013, which is the day FF released
it. To be honest I can not remember if the previous version of your
extension work when I upgraded to 26.0

I do have other no restart extensions and they all work perfectly.

Just to be sure I deactivated all my extensions except yours and Last Pass and restarted FF, but the problem still occurred.

    I
have just done several browser restarts to test your extension: The
first 2 restarts your extension worked, but on subsequent restarts it
    did not (weird)

Your help and assistance in this matter is
greatly appreciated as I really like Webmail ad-blocker and would like
    to continue using it.
  • I have just discovered something else, when your extension doesn't work closing the yahoo tab, then loading and logging on to Yahoo again makes your extention work. This is all done in the same browser session without the need to restart FF.
  • Can you send me a screenshot of your whole yahoo page when it's not working? (try smudging out your email and email message if you can)
  • Screenshot attached.

  • Nice smudging :) excellent screenshot though, it is informing me that you are using old yahoo look (yes it has been updated yet again) but this might because you have that BT at the top left of your Yahoo page and they (your internet service provider I believe) have not upgraded yet.
For instance this is my yahoo page below. As a test could you try resizing your window a bit to perhaps so that is less wide and then refresh the page and let me know if there is still empty space on the right.

  • Hi Jason,

I seem to have found a solution.

I presume from some of the emails in your screenshot that your in the USA, I'm just over the pond here in England. As far as I can tell I'm on the most current version of Yahoo UK. Although there is suppose to be an update in January.

I've used your add-on for a few years alongside anther add-on call NoScript. I had been blocking yahoo.com with NoScript, and only allowing uk-mg-bt.mail.yahoo.com, which has worked well up untill your recent update.

Anyway, I allowed yahoo.com and tried again (8 times in fact) and it now appears to work just fine. As a test I re-initiated the old blocking rule, fully expecting it not to work again, but it has not failed once. I suppose allowing Yahoo.com initially has blown out the cobwebs.

If for any reason it fails again I will permanently allow yahoo.com, and that should be a final cure.

Thank you for the time and effort you have spent helping me with this, and I'm sorry to have wasted you time.

    Kind regards,
    Simon.
  • Hi,

Just tried Webmail 4.2, and it works perfectly. There is now no longer a delay expanding the screen in Yahoo (not tested the others, because I don't use them).

Because of all your hard work I've sent you a $5.00 contribution via the contribute button, will you please confirm you have received it.

    Once again, thank you.
  • Wow, you must have bypassed the approval checks because it's not officially available yet :)
But thanks for the headsup and yes I did receive your donation, thank you very much.
I'll continue to monitor the status of extension for the other webmail users.

  • This is my screenshot with the brand new Yahoo mail format on my Mac.  Webmail Ad Blocker is not working at all.  The panel on the right can be temporarily disengaged when tapping on the right arrow, but it always comes back.  Is there any kind of updated version of W.A.B. that addresses this issue in particular?

@YougottabeDryhumpinme I will only be able to update the code once the new look is available to me. Or at least the majority or else I'm working blindly. I suggest reverting to the old look for now or wait for the eventual update.
  • Thank you.  I have reverted back to the old version and will patiently wait for your rewritten code update when the new version becomes available to you.
